Curriculum and Learning

At La Passerelle Primary School, our curriculum is designed to be highly personalised and bespoke to the unique needs of all our learners. As a special school catering for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we recognise that a one-size-fits-all approach will not meet the diverse requirements of our cohort. Instead, we have developed a broad and balanced curriculum that is underpinned by our core values of creativity, diversity, collaboration, kindness, and acceptance.

Our curriculum encompasses the Jersey Curriculum, ensuring that pupils have access to a rich and varied learning experience. However, we have tailored the content, delivery, and assessment of this curriculum to align with the specific needs of our SEMH learners. This includes a strong focus on developing pupils' social, emotional, and mental health skills.

The rationale for our curriculum is rooted in the school's vision and improvement priorities. We are committed to providing an inclusive and nurturing environment where pupils can build their confidence, self-belief, and ambition. By addressing the complex SEMH needs of our learners, we aim to equip them with the tools and strategies they need to successfully transition on to the next stage of their educational journey.

Our curriculum is designed to be aspirational, challenging, and engaging, with a range of onsite and offsite learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. This includes opportunities for pupils to explore their interests and talents through specialist subjects such as music, art, PE, and outdoor learning. Additionally, our in-house therapy team works closely with classroom staff to ensure that the curriculum is delivered in a therapeutic manner.

The personalised nature of our curriculum is evident in the way it is implemented. Each pupil has a bespoke timetable and individual targets that are closely aligned with their Record of Need. This ensures that the curriculum is tailored to their specific needs and that progress is carefully monitored and celebrated.
