Be The Change

La Passerelle has embarked on an exciting journey with Louis Byrne and his empowerment project. Specifically, the ‘I can I am and I will, #ICIAIW’ empowerment movement created to reflect, own and celebrate your identity.

Louis Byrne is a La Passerelle ambassador for Inclusion, Equality and Diversity and through his work the school have adopted his manifesto and woven it into the ethos, vision and curriculum. We have created a protected time within the school day to support wellness and strategies to improve positive mental health.

To ensure that the process is measurable it is being supported by CYPES Inclusion Department and is in line with outcomes outlined in the NASEN review. An initial survey which looks to identify self–concept at the beginning of the program coupled with reviewing this at the end of the program, the duration of the process is 13 weeks. However, as it is immersive and individualised it is not restrictive to 13 weeks and could in fact become a life choice.

Reflection and journaling can be supported within the school in a bespoke activity which has been identified in tutor group sessions in addition to the beginning and end of the school day. It is an opportunity to develop resilience and life skills which can be transferrable across a wide range of industries, and education settings in preparation for adulthood.

Louis Byrne is supporting the school communities and reaching out to all communities on and off Island to “feel a sense of pride in who you want to be and to seek clarity and rediscovery of oneself, and reconnection “

#ICIAIW has been incredibly successful in providing support to children and adults with SEMH in the UK. Working with Sarah Anderson Rawlins it has enabled learners to collaborate, produce poetry, powerful quotes and feel confident to express without prejudice.

At La Passerelle we encourage self-reflection and time to set personal goals. It is also designed to enable problem-solving and establishing individualised techniques to communicate wishes and feelings with consideration and respect.

We work to support learners to reflect on situations which may have presented as a challenge and calmly reflect on personal and individual strategies using the #iciaiw journal as a guide to develop positive coping steps.

The journal itself can be accessed on the school website and more information about Louis Byrne can be found at www.icaniamandiwill.com and is not exclusive to school we would encourage as many communities

I Can I Am I Will

Turn your I can’t, I'm not and I won’t into I Can I Am and I Will with Louis Byrne’s Reset Plan and Wellbeing Journal

Louis Byrne is an award winning international hair stylist who works on catwalk shows for Louis Vuitton, Dior, Channel, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen. I’ve had editorial work published in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Gay times and Wonderland and created campaigns for brands from Net-A-Porter to Nike. He is personal stylist to many famous faces including Vicky McClure, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith, Tove lo, Emma Willis and Birdy with a list of musicians, actors and models.

However, the journey to reach this point in my career has not been plain sailing by any means.

Riding on a rollercoaster of working hard, playing hard and fast living that included harmful addictions was forced to face his demons after a debilitating accident in 2018. With his leg severely broken in three places, he had no option but to pause and take stock.

So in 2018, he began the process of facing up to historic issues, including trauma and loss, that had plagued him since childhood. Through a process of understanding, sobriety and self-care, Ihe realised that change is possible, and found major healing through the positive mantra that he replayed over and over to myself:

I Can……

I Am……

And I Will…….

Supported by the power of this mantra, he soon found himself in a very different place, which is where the I CAN I AM AND I WILL movement of wellbeing and self-improvement began.

I Can I Am nd I Will (ICIAIW) is a self-development plan and wellbeing programme. what started as a personal mantra and manifestation has now become a movement that is totally of the moment.

One theme runs through the entire programme, and that is that each touchpoint is designed to promote positive and inclusive storytelling

Louis went on to bolster his concept by training as a Coach, and studied The Science of Well-Being course at Yale University.

Almost as soon as ICIAIW was born in 2020, it was catapulted onto national TV thanks to support from ITV’s Lorraine. They were running a series about wellness and I Can I Am and I Will was the perfect fit.

Junior Reset

What It’s All About

The Junior Reset & Life Skills Programme is a powerful, hands-on wellbeing and personal development journey created by transformation coach Louis Byrne, founder of I Can I Am and I Will. Designed especially for working-class young people, this programme isn’t about grades — it’s about growing into yourself. It’s about understanding your emotions, building confidence, learning how to communicate, and finding your creative voice.

At La Passerelle, this programme has become a core part of the school experience — giving students a space to pause, reflect and reset. We’re creating a new kind of classroom, where real life gets talked about, and key life tools are learned.

What It Does

  • Gives students structured time each week to check in with how they’re feeling

  • Builds emotional strength and confidence through journaling and open discussion

  • Teaches practical life skills — from goal setting to handling conflict, stress and anxiety

  • Encourages creativity, self-expression, and the power of personal story

  • Creates safe, honest spaces to talk, connect and grow

  • Embeds identity, respect, and empowerment into everyday learning

Why It Matters

Young people today face huge pressure — mentally, emotionally and socially. According to YoungMinds UK1 in 6 children aged 5-16 now struggle with mental health issues. And research shows that early intervention with emotional literacy and self-awareness dramatically improves not only wellbeing, but long-term success in education and employment (NHS Digital, 2023).

In schools like ours, where community and care are vital, the Junior Reset programme offers something many young people are missing: space to slow down, be themselves, and learn how to handle life’s ups and downs.

The Benefits

  • Improved behaviour and focus in class

  • Higher self-esteem and emotional resilience

  • Better peer relationships and reduced conflict

  • Stronger school engagement and personal motivation

  • Tools for life – not just for now

Why It Works Here

At La Passerelle, we’ve embedded Junior Reset into our weekly rhythm. Students are using the I Can I Am and I Will journal as protected time to check in with themselves, reset their mindset, and build the life skills that help them thrive, not just survive.

Because here, we’re not just teaching subjects.
We’re raising grounded, creative, emotionally smart young people — ready for whatever life throws their way.
