Switch Project
Switch at La Passerelle
The name "Switch Project at La Passerelle" evolved from our collaboration with Skateboard Jersey, led by Phil Minty and his exceptional coaches.
Skating, along with the theory that links practice to learning, is a key component of our SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) supportive approach to trauma recovery and the development of greater resilience.
In skateboarding, "switch" refers to riding with the opposite foot, using the right foot if you’re normally left-footed, and vice versa.
A switch trick is more difficult than a standard trick, and we can all relate to times in our lives when we face personal challenges. Overcoming these challenges often requires support, nurture, and reassurance.
Switch focusses on empowerment, actively listening to the voices of both pupils and parents/carers in order to develop a deeper understanding of the tools needed to achieve aspirational goals. We recognise the importance of connection and resilience in supporting positive outcomes, while also creating an environment that truly reflects the voice of the pupil.
